I began working on my father’s job sites in about 1969 at 12 years of age. I started out like most by cleaning up, digging ditches with a shovel and other small tasks until he allowed me to start driving nails and taking on more task. This continues weekends, evenings and summers until I was 18 years old. After a brief 2 year stint with the U.S. Air Force I started back with him again. I stayed in the Ohio Air National Guard until 1981 serving 1 weekend a month and working full time with him. I worked with my father until he retired. I tried to pick his brain -so to speak- and learn as much as I could and soak up 50 plus years of experience. We normally then would build 4 to 5 houses a year and take on some remodeling jobs. It was routine back then for us to work on as many tasks, such as, concrete work, block work, roofing, electrical, plumbing, drywall along with framing and finishing and a lot of wood siding. When I began to make our work schedule and bid jobs, it became a very quick transition for us to double our capacity by using only sub-contractors for plumbing, electric, heating-cooling, all masonry work, drywall and most of roofing, siding and insulation.
